LOS ANGELES - No. 6 LMU continued its school record winning streak on Saturday, earning a 12-10 win over No. 22 San Diego State to earn their 16th straight victory and remain unbeaten in Golden Coast Conference play.
The Lions (23-2, 5-0) were led by Ruth Arino Ruiz with seven points, scoring three goals with four assists. Skye Nankervis had a goal and three assists for a four-point day. The Lions converted 8-for-15 on the powerplay for the win.
San Diego State (12-13, 1-3) was led by Claudia Valdes with four goals and Makena Macedo with three goals.
It was a game of runs that had LMU come out on top.
With the game tied at 2-2, the Lions score four straight to take a 6-2 on Noa Sasover's goal with 5:37 to play in the second quarter. San Diego State didn't go away. They scored four stright of their own to tie the game at 6-6 with just 31 seconds left in the half.
LMU opened the third quarter with another four-goal run, this one camped again by a Sasover goal with 2:15 to play in the third quarter, to take a 10-6 lead.
The teams would trade goals, with San Diego State getting the last two goals for the final margin.
