FRESNO, Calif. — No. 14 Fresno State used a dominant third quarter to pull away from No. 20 Pacific and secure a 13-10 victory Saturday at the Fresno State Aquatics Center in the final Golden Coast Conference regular-season game for both teams.
With the win, Fresno State (14-9, 5-1 GCC) clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming GCC Championship, while Pacific (10-9, 2-4 GCC) will enter as the No. 5 seed. The championship tournament is scheduled for April 10–12 at Fresno State, with the full bracket to be announced later Saturday afternoon.
The teams traded goals early, finishing the first quarter tied 3-3. Pacific’s Anna Crum opened the scoring and later finished with three goals, helping the Tigers keep pace through the opening half.
Fresno State began to create separation in the second quarter, taking a 5-4 lead into halftime, before breaking the game open in the third. The Bulldogs outscored Pacific 6-3 in the period, fueled by a balanced offensive surge.
Riaan Bryant led Fresno State with five goals, while Charley Stephens added four. Kira Anderson chipped in two goals as the Bulldogs capitalized on their opportunities, finishing with a .481 shooting percentage.
Pacific stayed within striking distance behind contributions from Maria Ikonomou and Sophie Pethers, who each scored twice, but could not overcome Fresno State’s decisive third-quarter run.
In goal, Katelyn Mobley recorded 13 saves for the Bulldogs, helping fend off multiple late pushes by the Tigers.
Fresno State maintained control in the fourth quarter, despite Pacific scoring three times in the final period, and closed out the three-goal win to conclude conference play.
