SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Loyola Marymount finished league competition unbeaten in the Golden Coast Conference, winning 18 straight games on their way to their first regular season title. With that, the Lions swept the individual honors as the GCC announced its 2024 women's water polo postseason honors. All individual awards and All-GCC teams were voted on by the Conference's eight coaches.
Ruth Arino Ruiz was named the 2024 Player of the Year and teammate, senior transfer Skye Nankervis was named Newcomer of the Year. The duo helped the Lions to the top seed in the upcoming
GCC Championship and earned the programs third GCC title, adding a regular season title to the two previous tournament titles (2014 and 2015).
Arino Ruiz, who was second in the GCC with 74 goals, and tops in the league with 52 assists and 126 points, was also named to the seven-member All-GCC First-Team. It was her second straight first-team honor. Also earning her second straight All-GCC First-Team selection was Fresno State goalie Paula Nieto-Jasny.
Joining them as All-GCC First-Team selections were Dora Alaksza (Pacific), Hailey Andress (Fresno State), Nankervis (LMU), Abbey Simshauser (Fresno State), and Claudia Valdes (San Diego State).
The league also selected an All-GCC Second-Team, All-GCC Honorable Mention and a GCC All-Freshman team. All told, a record 30 players earned postseason honors.
