Offense Powers UCSB to Semifinals

IRVINE, Calif. -- The first tournament game in more than 24 months for the Golden Coast Conference, finally got started on Friday night. No. 3 seed and sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara rode its offense to a 17-7 win over No. 6 and 13th-ranked UC Irvine. It was game one of the first tournament since November of 2019.

Logan Sutter and Cole Brosnan scored three goals each as the Gauchos jumped out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Twelve different players scored for UCSB (22-8), who advance to Saturday's semifinals, taking on No. 2 seed Pacific in the first semifinal at 5 pm.

Freshman Tyler Padua led UC Irvine (8-13) with three goals. 

UC Irvine managed to cut the early deficit to 5-3 with the first goal of the second quarter and trailed 8-4 at the break. The Gauchos then pulled away, outscoring UCI 5-1 in the third quarter.
