SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- Since men's water polo began competing in the Golden Coast Conference in 2016, Long Beach State or Pacific has played in every title game of the annual tournament. It is only fitting they meet again for the final time within the Golden Coast Conference.

The 2022 Golden Coast Conference Men's Water Polo Championships will conclude on Sunday with top-seed and seventh-ranked Pacific (20-6) taking on No. 2 seed and sixth-ranked Long Beach State (21-8) in the title game at UC Santa Barbara's Campus Pool at 1 pm.
The teams have met twice during the regular season with the Tigers taking both meetings. The defeated the Beach in the fifth place game at the MPSF Invitational, 13-10, on Sept. 25. Then on Oct. 8 in the GCC match-up, the Tigers went on the road and earned a 15-12 win.
This year's title game match-up is a rematch of last year's title game held at UC Irvine in which the top-seeded Beach earned a 13-9 win over No. 2 seed Pacific. They also met in 2018 in Long Beach with No. 3 seed LBSU earning a 10-6 victory. They also played each other in a pair of semifinals. In 2016, No. 2 Pacific defeated No. 3 Long Beach State, 12-11, and in the 2019 semifinals with the Beach winning 13-12 as the No. 4 seed over No. 1 Pacific. LBSU is 3-1 in the tournament against Pacific.
As mentioned the two are no stranger to playing for the GCC title. Take a look at the championship games since they started in 2016:
- Nov. 20, 2016: No. 4 Pepperdine 6, No. 2 Pacific 5
- Nov. 19, 2107: No. 1 Pacific 9, No. 3 UC Irvine 5
- Nov. 18, 2018: No. 3 Long Beach State 10, No. 1 Pacific 6
- Nov. 24, 2019: No. 2 Pepperdine 14, No. 4 Long Beach State 10
- 2020: No championships held
- Nov. 21, 2021: No. 1 Long Beach State 13, No. 2 Pacific 9
