Seedings, Tourney Schedule Set

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

The Golden Coast Conference regular season wrapped up on Saturday and with it came the final seedings for the upcoming 2021 GCC Men's Water Polo Championships. The tournament will be held Nov. 19-21 on the campus of UC Irvine.

Long Beach State, who completed the regular season unbeaten in conference play, takes home the top-seed as the regular season champions. They earn a first-round bye to the semifinals. Also earning a first-round bye as the No. 2 seed is Pacific. The Tigers finished in a tie for second with UC Santa Barbara at 3-2, and earn the No. 2 seed thanks to the 9-8 win over UCSB in Stockton on Oct. 16. 

UCSB, who defeated Pepperdine on Saturday 16-13 to finish 3-2 in the GCC, earn the No. 3 seed and play in game one of the tournament on Friday, Nov. 19 at 5 pm against host and No. 6 seed UC Irvine. The Anteaters finished in a tie for fifth with Pepperdine at 1-4 in GCC play. The Waves earn the No. 5 seed thanks to their win over UC Irvine, 9-6, on Oct. 16 in Malibu.

San Jose State, who finished GCC play at 2-3, earns the No. 4 seed and will take on the fifth-seeded Waves on game two of the first round on Friday at 7 pm. 

The semifinals of the 2021 GCC Men's Championships will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 with the first semifinal featuring the winner of game one against No. 2 seed Pacific at 5 pm, followed by the second semifinal final featuring No. 1 Long Beach State and the winner of game two.

The title game will be held on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 2 pm with the winner earning the GCC's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championships held December 4-5, 2021 at UCLA's Spieker Aquatics Center.
