Spartans Take Fifth in OT Thriller

MALIBU, Calif. - San Jose State scored four unanswered goals in overtime to lift them to a thrilling 14-10 win over 15th-ranked UC Irvine in the fifth place game of the 2019 Golden Coast Conference Men's Water Polo Championships.

Finn Pardon led all scorers with four goals and two steals for the Spartans (8-19). Adam Bado scored a pair of goals, scoring both in the overtime frame. Marc Weber, Nick Marchione, and Niels Hafmeijer also had a pair of goals. Goalie Yahav Fire had 13 saves.

Casey Lynton, Jason Evezard, and Bryant Joudrie had two goals each for UC Irvine (7-16).

The game featured 10 ties and three lead changes and was close throughout. With 1:24 remaining in regulation, Zlatan Nikocevic scored for UC Irvine to tie the game at 9-9 and send it to overtime.

The teams traded goals to start the first extra frame. Justin Pickering scored first for SJSU only to see Joudrie tie the game for the 10th time a minute later. From there, it was all SJSU as Pardon, Bado scored two goals each in the final four minutes of the game.
