MALIBU, Calif. - Junior Cole Brosnan had five points to lead third-seed UC Santa Barbara to a 13-9 win over No. 6 seed UC Irvine in game one of the 2019 Golden Coast Conference Men's Water Polo Championships in Malibu, Calif., Friday morning.

Brosnan scored back-to-back goals to start the second quarter that was key to the Gauchos (19-6) pulling away. With the game tied at 2-2, UCSB scored seven of the next eight goals. Brosnan had three goals and two assists. Mason McQuet had two goals and an assist while Nathan Puentes had three goals. Jacob Halle had two goals, an assist and a steal.
Jason Evezard led the Anteaters (7-14) with four goals.
With the game tied, UCSB had a six-goal second quarter and out scored UCI 10-3 in the middle quarters.
UCSB advances to face Pepperdine in the first semifinal on Saturday at 11:15 am. The Anteaters will play in the fifth place game at 9:30 am.
