Lancers Take Fifth in GCC Championships

No. 20 California Baptist holds off Azusa Pacific, 12-11, in GCC Championship fifth place game.

FRESNO, Calif. — No. 20 California Baptist held off Azusa Pacific for a 12-11 victory Saturday morning in the fifth-place game of the Golden Coast Conference Championship at Fresno State Aquatics Center. Both teams closed their 2026 seasons with the result.

The Lancers (14-11) built an early cushion with a 4-1 first quarter and never surrendered the lead, though the Cougars trimmed the deficit to one goal multiple times in the second half. California Baptist led 10-7 entering the fourth quarter before surviving Azusa Pacific’s late push.

Emmie Ramirez paced the Lancers with four goals and two assists, while Niya Bumbaca added two goals and two assists. Madison Haworth scored twice and Delilah Moreno added a goal and an assist.

Azusa Pacific (17-13) was led by Jessie Nelson’s five-goal performance. Montana George added two goals and four assists, and Audrey Dexter scored twice.

The Cougars pulled within 11-10 on Nelson’s fifth goal with 3:15 remaining, but Ramirez answered with 54 seconds left to restore a two-goal margin. George scored with 42 seconds remaining to make it 12-11, but California Baptist held on through the final possession.

California Baptist goalkeeper Amelia Urry earned the win after recording three saves in the first half, while Tyanna Schneider and Daniela Herrero Miralles split time in goal for Azusa Pacific.
