Aztecs Post 19-6 GCC Win

No. 19 San Diego State improves to 4-1 in GCC play with 19-6 win over Azusa Pacific on Thursday afternoon.

SAN DIEGO — No. 19 San Diego State improved to 4-1 in Golden Coast Conference play with a 19-6 win over Azusa Pacific on Thursday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.

Sydney Gish led the Aztecs (11-7, 4-1 GCC) with five goals. Mimi Stoupas added four and Shannon Murphy scored three.

San Diego State took control early, building a 4-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. Jessie Nelson scored the Cougars’ first goal, but Azusa Pacific could not keep pace.

The Aztecs extended their lead to 7-4 by halftime. Azusa Pacific scored three times in the second quarter, but San Diego State answered each goal to maintain a three-goal advantage.

San Diego State broke the game open in the third quarter, scoring seven times to push the lead to 14-6 entering the final period. The Aztecs added five more goals in the fourth.

Daniela Herrero Miralles made 10 saves for Azusa Pacific, which struggled to slow San Diego State’s balanced offense.
