Lions Win 13th Straight

No. 7 LMU remained perfect in GCC play with 14-6 win over Azusa Pacific.

LOS ANGELES — No. 7 Loyola Marymount extended its dominance in Golden Coast Conference play Friday, winning its 13th straight game and stretching its GCC regular season winning streak to 21 dating back to April 1, 2023, with a 14-6 victory over Azusa Pacific.

LMU (19-3, 5-0 GCC) used a balanced offensive attack and a strong second quarter to pull away at Burns Aquatics Center. The Lions outscored Azusa Pacific 4-1 in the second period to take a 6-2 halftime lead and never looked back.

Cianne Benjamin led LMU with three goals, while Sophia DeMattia added a goal and five assists. Anna Tarantino and London Boyd each scored twice.

Azusa Pacific (16-9, 0-5 GCC) was led by Bailey Hollick, who scored two goals. The Cougars shot just 20% (6 for 30) and were held scoreless on two power-play opportunities.

Loyola Marymount steadily built its lead in the second half, outscoring the Cougars 8-4 over the final two periods. The Lions capitalized on special teams, converting 2 of 5 power plays and their lone penalty attempt.

Madison Searle earned the win in goal for LMU, recording eight saves while allowing five goals in 16 minutes of action.

The Lions’ defensive pressure limited Azusa Pacific’s efficiency throughout, helping secure their 13th consecutive victory and maintain their perfect conference record.
