CBU Tops SCU 14-8 in GCC Action

No. 22 California Baptist improves to 2-1 in GCC play with 14-8 win over Santa Clara.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — No. 22 California Baptist defeated Santa Clara 14-8 in Golden Coast Conference play Saturday afternoon at Lancer Aquatic Center.

Junior Emmie Ramirez led the Lancers with a game-high seven points, scoring three goals and adding four assists as California Baptist (9-5, 2-1 GCC) pulled away with a balanced offensive effort.

Delilah Moreno added three goals for CBU, while Devyn Ruffer totaled five points on two goals and three assists. Madison Haworth recorded three points with two goals and an assist, Niya Bumbaca had a goal and an assist, and Reese Beringer scored twice.

The Lancers led 3-1 after the first quarter and extended the margin to 5-3 at halftime before breaking the game open with five goals in the third.

Santa Clara (2-13, 0-3 GCC) was led by Chloe Rizof, who finished with four points on three goals and an assist. Megan Chambliss scored twice with two assists, and Khloe Tarbet added two goals. Calla Troxel also scored for the Broncos.

Tyanna Schneider made eight saves in goal for California Baptist, while Haley Tassell recorded 10 saves for Santa Clara.
