SAN DIEGO, Calif. — No. 19 San Diego State cruised to a 20-4 win over Santa Clara in Golden Coast Conference action Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.
The Aztecs jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back as Mimi Stoupas paced SDSU with seven points, scoring six goals.
Ioana Petiki added six points on five assists and a goal for the Aztecs (9-7, 2-1 GCC). Shannon Murphy and Sydney Gish each recorded five points in the win.
Chloe Rizof had a goal and an assist for the Broncos (2-12, 0-2 GCC).
San Diego State set the tone early, taking a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter behind goals from Gish, Lucy Bullock and Murphy. Sydney Maccabe scored Santa Clara’s lone goal of the period, but the Aztecs answered with two more scores before the quarter ended.
SDSU extended the lead in the second quarter with four goals, including two from Stoupas and another from Claudia Valdes. Hailey Romano and Khloe Tarbet each scored for Santa Clara as the Aztecs took a 9-3 advantage into halftime.
San Diego State dominated the second half, outscoring Santa Clara 11-1 to secure the 20-4 final.
