LOS ANGELES - In a thrilling Golden Coast Conference Championship Seventh-Place Game at the Burns Aquatics Center in Los Angeles, No. 7 seed Concordia triumphed over No. 8 seed Santa Clara Broncos, 11-9.
The win was the Golden Eagles GCC finale as they will join the Western Water Polo Association in the 2025-26 season.
The Broncos (6-19) were led by Soph Harvey, who scored three goals, demonstrating her prowess in front of the net. Libby Slater also contributed significantly with two goals, while Megan Chambliss, Kate Rodman, Sydney Maccabe, and Chloe Rizof each added one goal for Santa Clara, keeping the game competitive.
On the other side, Anna Tyukasz was the standout player for Concordia (7-23), netting five goals. Her performance was bolstered by Munroe Blem and Sierrah Ferguson, who contributed two goals each, helping to secure the victory. Hannah Edwards and Presley Acosta also found the net, rounding out the scoring for the Golden Eagles.
The scoring was tight throughout the game, with both teams trading goals in the first period, which ended in a 3-3 tie. Concordia pulled ahead in the second quarter, and despite Santa Clara's efforts to rally back in the third, Concordia maintained their lead to finish the match.
In goal, Concordia's Jaden Soto made a remarkable 15 saves, proving crucial in preserving the Golden Eagles' lead. Meanwhile, Haley Tassell recorded five saves for the Broncos.
