STOCKTON, Calif. -- In a thrilling match at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton, CA, No. 8 Fresno State triumphed over No. 21 Pacific, 12-10, in the final Golden Coast Conference matchup of the regular season.
With the win, Fresno State (12-7, 6-1) earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming
GCC Championship (Apr. 25-27). Pacific (12-9, 5-2) will be the No. 3 seed.
Fresno State's Abbey Simshauser led the scoring with an impressive three goals, while teammates Hailey Andress and Brooke Ochoa contributed two each. Other goal scorers for the Bulldogs included Marit van der Kolk, Elisa Grim, Megan Cranley, Sidney Strickland, and Kira Anderson, all playing pivotal roles in their victory.
On the other side, Hila Futorian from Pacific had an outstanding performance, netting four goals. Alicia Petkov and Dora Alaksza each scored twice, rounding out the Tigers' offense. Despite their efforts, the Tigers fell just short of a comeback in the closing minutes of the match.
The game featured a fast-paced first quarter, with Fresno State taking an early lead. After trading goals, the Bulldogs managed to maintain their advantage through the subsequent periods, outscoring Pacific consistently, including a strong showing in the third quarter.
