SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- No. 25 California Baptist secured a strong 12-8 victory over host Santa Clara at the Sullivan Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon. The Lancers outscored Santa Clara 5-0 in the first quarter and held them to 0-for-8 on the 6-on-5 attack for the win.
Celeste Almendariz and Kyra Kahahawai were part of a balanced offense for CBU (12-13, 3-3), each scoring two goals alongside contributions from Grace Bergquist, Niya Bumbaca, and others. CBU maintained their lead throughout the match, with notable scoring bursts in the third and fourth periods.
Santa Clara (5-15, 0-6) struggled to keep pace early on but found their rhythm in the second half, with Kate Rodman leading the charge, scoring three goals. Despite their efforts, including a strong performance from goalie Haley Tassell who made seven saves, the Broncos could not close the gap.
