GLENDORA, Calif. -- Azusa Pacific jumped out to a 10-2 lead at halftime and used the fast start to earn an 18-10 victory over Santa Clara in a Golden Coast Conference match held at Citrus Aquatic Center in Glendora, CA.
Alyssa Perez and Jessie Nelson led the charge for APU (14-11, 2-2), each netting four goals. Laia Marsinach Ortega had a five-point day with three goals and two assists. APU’s Daniela Herrero Miralles made 14 saves, significantly limiting the Broncos' scoring opportunities.
APU jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and then increased it with a six-goal second.
Santa Clara (4-12, 0-3) managed to increase their scoring output as the game progressed, with Chloe Rizof finishing as the leading scorer for the Broncos with three goals. However, APU maintained their dominance, consistently responding to Santa Clara's attempts to close the gap as both teams netted eight goals in the second half.
