IRVINE, Calif. -- No. 11 Loyola Marymount remained upbeaten in Golden Coast Conference play with an 18-7 victory over Concordia at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center in Irvine, CA Friday afternoon. The Lions started strong, jumped out to an 8-2 lead, led by Ruth Arino Ruiz, who had 10 points on the day with seven goals and three assits.
In the first quarter, LMU (14-11, 4-0) quickly established their dominance with goals from Arino Ruiz, Skye Nankervis, and Carolina Magano, among others. Concordia (3-19, 0-6) managed to score once in the first period but struggled to keep pace with the Lions, trailing 5-1 at the end of the quarter.
The second period saw LMU continue to extend their lead, with Yanah Gerber contributing two goals. Concordia's Emeline Smiley and Sierrah Ferguson responded with a couple of goals, but LMU's consistent scoring left them trailing 9-3 at halftime.
As the game progressed, LMU maintained relentless pressure, scoring six goals in the third period alone. Arino Ruiz added four more to her tally, while Concordia's Presley Acosta, who led CUI with three goals, tried to rally her team with two goals in the period.
In the final quarter, LMU's momentum did not falter as they added three more goals, closing out the game with a convincing 18-7 victory. Concordia's Jaden Soto recorded nine saves.
