Schneider 17 Saves Give Lancers GCC Win

Goalie Tyanna Schneider and California Baptist defense help Lancers to 12-6 win in conference play.

IRVINE, Calif. -- No. 24 California Baptist claimed their first conference win over the season, 12-6, over Concordia on Friday at the  Golden Coast Conference matchup at William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center. The Lancers' defense posted shutouts in the first and third quarters and used 17 saves from goalie Tyanna Schnieder for the win.

On the offensive side,  CBU (10-13, 1-3) got three goals each from Kyra Kahahawai and Celeste Almendariz, while Madison Haworth, Grace Bergquist, and others contributed to the scoreline. Concordia (2-16, 0-4) responded with notable efforts from Hannah Edwards, who scored three goals.

The defensive efforts of CBU's Schneider were crucial. The teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first quarter. CUI then took a 3-2 lead with just over four minutes to play in the first half on a goal from  Anna Tyukasz.

CBU then broke the game open with six straight goals to end the first half and start the third quarter. Grace Bergquist's goal with 3:34 to play in the third game the Lancers an 8-3 lead. From there the teams traded goals and CUI never got closer than four.
