Pacific Doubles-up Broncos in GCC Win

No. 20 Pacific earns 14-7 win on the road over Santa Clara in GCC play.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- No. 20 Pacific used a six-goal third quarter and allowed just one goal in the middle quiarters to earn a decisive 14-7 victory. The Tigers never trailed as a trio of players had at least four points in the contest.

Alicia Petkov, Dora Alaksza, and Ella Cowan each netted three goals for Pacific (9-6, 3-1), helping the team establish a strong lead. Cowan added two assists for a five-point game while Alaksza and Patkov added an assist each for four-point games. Addison McGowan contributed two goals, while Hila Futorian, Tea Fitzgerald, and Szamira Koppany each added one. The balanced scoring was pivotal in maintaining the Tigers' momentum throughout the match.

The first quarter set the tone as the Tigers jumped out to a 5-3 lead, with back-to-back goals from Alaksza and Petkov. Despite a valiant effort from the Broncos (4-10, 0-2), including a hat trick from Libby Slater, they struggled to keep pace with Pacific's aggressive attack.

In the second quarter, Pacific scored only once but held the Broncos scoreless, effectively extending their lead. The Tigers exploded in the third quarter with six goals, further solidifying their dominance in the match. A flurry of goals from Petkov and Cowan left the Broncos with little opportunity to rally.

Although Santa Clara managed to score three goals in the final quarter, it wasn't enough to close the gap. Goalkeeper Maja Lizy Dulic of Pacific made 12 saves, while SCU's Haley Tassell recorded seven saves. The Tigers' strong defense combined with an explosive offense ultimately secured their victory, enhancing their position in the GCC standings.
