Balance Attack Leads to Fresno State Win

No. 7 Bulldogs cruise to 20-6 win at home in GCC opener over Concordia.

FRESNO, Calif. -- No. 7 Fresno State earned a commanding 20-6 victory over Concordia on Saturday afternoon in their Golden Coast Conference opener. Fresno State opened the scoring floodgates early, netting seven goals in the first period, showcasing their offensive prowess.

Offense has been the theme early this conference season. In the four GCC matchups, the winner has netted at least 20 goals in all four of them.

Abbey Simshauser led the Bulldogs (7-5, 1-0) with a standout performance netting seven points, including five goals and two assists. Hailey Andress also had a remarkable outing, contributing four goals and demonstrating her versatility in the pool. The Bulldogs maintained a strong offensive momentum, consistently finding the back of the net across all four periods with six players scoring at least two goals each.

Concordia (1-9, 0-2) struggled to keep pace, managing to score six goals against a well-organized Fresno defense. Anna Tyukasz and Sierrah Ferguson were the bright spots for the Golden Eagles, each scoring two goals, while Allyson Corbett and Sofia Smith added one goal each to the team's total.

The Bulldogs' defensive efforts were supported by their goalie Ida Tully-Giles, who made six saves, while Abigayle Armstrong and Islay Martin-Hill contributed one save each. Concordia's Jaden Soto stepped up with 10 saves, attempting to mitigate the onslaught from Fresno State.

The goals by period highlighted the Bulldogs' dominance, with scores of 7-1 in the first, 3-1 in the second, 6-1 in the third, and 4-3 in the fourth.
