STOCKTON, Calif. -- When a player has the hot hand, keep giving them the ball. And that is what Pacific did as junior Dora Alaksza set a Golden Coast Conference record with 11 goals the Tigers' 20-14 win over Concordia Friday night.
Alaksa did a little of everything, finishing with 11 goals, three assists, five steals and three drawn ejections. She had four goals in the first eight minutes as the Tigers (7-5,1-0) doninated early. Concordia’s Hannah Edwards contributed five goals, but the Golden Eagles fell short as the Tigers secured the win.
Concordia (1-8, 0-1) responded in the second period, rallying with two goals from Edwards and one from Emeline Smiley, but Pacific maintained their momentum, scoring three goals to lead 9-3 at halftime. Alaksza continued her offensive display, adding two more goals to her tally, solidifying the Tigers' command.
The Golden Eagles found their rhythm in the third period, scoring six goals, but the Tigers countered with five, keeping their lead intact at 14-9. Hannah Edwards was pivotal for Concordia, scoring three goals in the period, but it wasn't enough to close the gap as Alaksza kept the pressure on with additional scoring.
In the final period, both teams exchanged goals, with Pacific scoring six times and Concordia five.
Despite the loss, Concordia's Jaden Soto recorded 13 saves, demonstrating strong defensive efforts throughout the game. Pacific’s Maja Lizy Dulic had seven saves, which helped maintain their lead. The matchup showcased a thrilling display of talent, particularly from the standout players of both teams.
