SAN DIEGO, Calif -- No. 21 San Diego State used a pair of seven-goal quarters to defeated California Baptist, 22-14, at the Aztec Aquaplex on Saturday. The game featured a barrage of goals from both teams, with SDSU maintaining a consistent lead throughout the match.
Mimi Stoupas led the Aztecs (6-5, 1-0) with an impressive six goals, while Claudia Valdes and Sydney Gish contributed three goals each. The Aztecs displayed strong offensive coordination, scoring seven goals in the second and fourth periods to pull away.
California Baptist (6-9, 0-1) fought hard with Delilah Moreno scoring four goals and Dora Lehoczky adding three.
The Aztecs held a 5-4 lead after one and then broke the game open with seven goals in the second quarter for a 12-7 lead. CBU trimmed the lead by one, 15-11, after winning the third quarter. SDSU pulled away with another 7-3 edge in the final quarter.
