Bulldogs Tabbed to Win Fourth Title

Fresno State earns maximum first place votes to earn top spot in GCC Preseason Coaches' Poll

#GCCWATERPOLO – The 2024 Collegiate Women’s Water Polo season begins this week, and Fresno State enters the campaign picked to win their fourth straight title, as voted on by the eight league coaches for the annual Golden Coast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

The Bulldogs have won at least a share of the last three GCC regular season titles and have won the last three tournament titles. They earned seven first place votes to sit atop the poll with 49 points. Sitting second and earning the other first place vote is Loyola Marymount, who earned 42 points.

Rounding out this year’s preseason poll is Pacific in third place (37 points), San Diego State in fourth place (30 points), California Baptist in fifth (22 points), a tie at sixth with Azusa Pacific and Concordia (16 points), and in eighth place is Santa Clara (12 points).

SEASON OPENERS

The 2024 season begins on Thursday, Jan. 18 with Azusa Pacific hosting CSU Monterey Bay. It is one of 19 games in the opening weekend within the Golden Coast Conference. Also playing in the opening weekend of the season will be California Baptist, Concordia, Fresno State, Loyola Marymount, and San Diego State. Santa Clara will open the weekend of Jan. 26 while Pacific will start their season on Feb. 2. Here is what is on top to start the 2024 season:

ROAD TO THE GCC CHAMPIONSHIP

The road to the 2024 GCC Championship heads to Santa Clara. This year’s tournament will be held at Santa Clara University on Friday, Apr. 26 through Sunday, Apr. 28. First round match-ups will be held on Friday, Apr. 26 with the semifinals on Saturday, Apr. 27. The title game will be on Sunday, Apr. 28. A seventh place and fifth place game will be played on Saturday with a third place game on Sunday.
