Big Second Half Lifts San Diego State

No. 25 San Diego State outscore California Baptist 7-1 in the second half to lift them to a 13-6 win in Golden Coast Conference action on Thursday afternoon. 

The Aztecs (10-15, 3-2) trailed 4-2 after the first period but only allowed two goals the rest of the way to earn the win. Amanda Legaspi led the Aztecs with five goals, Claudia Valdes had a six-point day with three goals and three assists, and Rose Kanemy had a four-point day with two goals and two assists.

San DIego State finds themselves in a three-way tie for third with Concordia and No. 12 Pacific. California Baptist (14-17, 0-6) was led by Jamie Hutton with three points, scoring a goal with two assists.

With the game tied 2-2, CBU scored back-to-back goals from Maddie Schwegler and Kyndall Burrell to take a 4-2 entering the second quarter.

San Diego State would answer with a three-goal run to take 5-4 lead on goals from Legaspi, Valdes and Kanemy. Celeste Almendariz then tied it for CBU with just over four minutes to play, 5-5.

Danni Croteau scored with just over a minute left in the first half to make it 6-5 for the Aztecs. They would lead for good as the goal started a run of four unanswered as they built a 9-5 lead an never looked back.
