Lions Claim Third With 14-6 Win

No. 2 seed and 17th-ranked LMU claims third with 14-6 win over No. 4 seed and 24th-ranked San Diego State.

Second-seed and 17th-ranked LMU outscored fourth-seed and 24th-ranked San Diego State 9-2 in the final three quarters to claim third place in the 2023 Golden Coast Conference Women's Water Polo Chaampionships with a 14-6 win Sunday morning from the Aztec Aquaplex.

The Lions (15-15) were paced by six points each from Mollie Williams (4 goals, 2 assists) and Ruth Arino Ruiz (1 goal, 5 assists). Marialena Seletopoulou added five goals for LMU. The Aztecs (12-19) had three players with two points, including Amanda Legaspi and Rose Kanemy with two goals each.

The game was tied at 4-4 after the first quarter. LMU then scored five straight to take a 9-4 lead with just under two minutes left in the first half. SDSU broke the run to make it 9-5 at the half.

LMU posted a shutout in the third quarter and added three more goals as they pulled away.
