No 2 seed and 17th-ranked LMU advances to eighth GCC semifinal with 12-10 win over Santa Clara.

Second-seed and 17th-ranked LMU earned a 12-10 win over No. 7 seed Santa Clara in the second game of the 2023 Golden Coast Conference Women's Water Polo Championships at the Aztec Aquaplex on Friday afternoon.

With the win, the Lions (14-14) return to the GCC semifinals for the eighth time in the 10-year history of the GCC. They will face No. 3 seed Pacific in the first semifinal on Saturday at 2 pm. Ruth Arino Ruiz led the Lions with four points, scoring two with two assists.

Santa Clara (10-20) outscored the Lions 7-0 in the fourth quarter to trim a lead that was 12-3 to a 12-10 margin before running out of time. Seven different Broncos scored with Chloe Morrison finishing with three points, scoring twice with an assist.

The Lions led 8-3 at the half and then outscored Santa Clara 4-0 in the third for a 12-3 lead before SCU closed the margin with seven straight.
