SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Top-seed and 8th-ranked Fresno State is back to the semifinals thanks to a 14-9 win over No. 8 seed California Baptist in game four of the 2023 Golden Coast Conference Women's Water Polo Championships on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex.
Fresno State (15-8) overame a fast start from California Baptist (14-18) to get back to their fourth straight GCC Championships semifinal. Hailey Andress had five points with a goal and four assists. Brooke Ochoa also had five points with three goals and two assists. CBU was led by Cayleigh Carter with four points, scoring three goals with an assist.
California Baptist jumped out to a quick start. They took a 2-0 lead on goals from Carter and Jamie Hutton. After three straight from Fresno State gave the Bulldogs their first lead, CBU tied it at 3-3 on another Carter goal.
Baack-to-back goals from Kaitlin Howarth and Ochos gave Fresno State a two-goal lead, 5-3, and they would grow the lead to 10-5 at the break.
