IRVINE, Calif. -- Ruth Arino Ruiz scored seven goals and added three assists for a 10-point day in leading No. 15 LMU to a 16-6 road win over Concordia in Golden Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions (12-14, 5-1) remain in sole possession of second play in GCC standings with a match-up at No. 24 San Diego State remaining. Concordia (15-13, 3-3) is in sole possession of fifth place in the standings. The
2023 GCC Championships begin Apr. 28.
Mollie Williams added three goals, as did Kelsey Snelgar for the Lions. Snelgar added an assist for a four-point day. Madison Ravelo scored twice with an assist to lead CUI.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 lead early on goals from Tamsyn Evezard and Emily Tucker. Tucker's goal came with :22 left in the first quarter. LMU then posted a 6-1 second quarter as part of an 8-0 run to take over the game.
The Lions scored three straight, one from Anino Ruiz and two from Snelgar, to take a 4-2 lead with 5:34 to play. After another Tucker goal cut the lead to 4-3, the Lions scored eight unaswered to take a 12-3 lead with 2:16 to play in the third quarter.
The Lions outshot CUI 37-22 and held the Golden Eagles to 0-for-8 on the 6-on-5 advantage. LMU was 3-for-6.
