STOCKTON, Calif. -- No. 12 Pacific overcame a 3-0 deficit to earn a 10-9 win over No. 25 San Diego State in Golden Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied at 7-7 with just under six minutes to play in regulation, Pacific took control with three straight goals, two from Hila Futorian, for the home win. Futorian led all scorers with four goals. Szamira Koppany added three while Lucy Davis had a three-point day with a goal and two assists for the Tigers (18-6, 3-2). Goalie Clara Vulpisi had six saves and five steals as defense was key throughout the day.
San Diego State (9-15, 2-2) was led by Amanda Legaspi with three goals and Mandy Lagerlof and 11 saves in goal.
The Aztecs jumped out early. Goals from Kendall Houck, Legaspi and Katie Ratcliff built a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile their defense kept Pacific off the scoreboard in the opening quarter.
Pacific would flip the script in a defensive second quarter. Brianna Utas finally got Pacific on the board with :42 to play in the second quarter to cut the lead to 3-1. Futorian then would score with just :11 left to make it 3-2.
The Tigers would would end up scoring four unanswered as they scored the first two goals of the third quarter to take a 4-3 lead on a pair of Koppany goals. It would be back-and-forth from there with Pacific taking a 7-5 lead after the opening possession of the fourth quarter
San Diego State answered on goals from Klara Goldstein and Shannon Murphy to tie the game at 7-7 wth 5:38 to play. From there, the Tigers went on their closing run for the win.
