IRVINE, Calif. -- Madison Ravelo scored six of Concordia's 11 goals to lift the Golden Eagles to an 11-9 win over California Baptist in Golden Coast Conference play on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (14-12, 3-2) broke open a tie game with a 5-1 run and then held on at the end for the conference win. Tamsyn Evezard added three goals and Tatiana Cava recorded 11 saves in the win. CBU (14-15, 0-4) was led by Emaly Hutton's three goals.
The teams traded goals throughout the first two quarters with both teams taking one-goal leads. Ravelo gave CUI a 5-4 lead with 3:30 to play in the first half and then Celeste Almendariz tied the game with just :27 remaining before half. It looked like it would go into the lockerroom tied at 5-5, but Evezard scored with :01 on the clock to give CUI a 6-5 lead.
That goal ignited CUI on their 5-1 run into the fourth quarter. They would score the first two goals of the third quarter to take an 8-5 lead. After Almendariz cut the lead to 8-6 with 4:00 to play, CUI scored two more for a 10-6 lead.
CBU wasn't done. They would score the next three goals in the game, cutting the lead to 10-9 with :57 left in regulation on a goal from Emaly Hutton. Ravelo would held the comeback bid, scoring her sixth of the game with :42 left.
