Aztecs Defeat CUI in OT Thriller

SDSU scores final two goal of regulation then wins it in OT, 11-10, over CUI.

No. 25 San Diego State erased a two-goal fourth-quarter deficit and came from behind to earn an 11-10 overtime victory over Concordia in Irvine, Calif. on Friday afternoon in Golden Coast Conference action. 

Caludia Valdes scored four of the Aztecs' (8-14, 1-1) final five goals to force overtime and lift them to the win. She finished with five goals and an assist. Six other Aztecs scored in the game. Madison Ravelo led Concordia (13-10, 2-2) with two goals and two assits for a four-point game. Nicole Tormey had three goals.

The game featured seven ties and San Diego State's Kendall Houck made the score 6-6 with 6:01 to play in the fourth quarter. Concordia then scored two straight, the first by Tormey and the second by Allyson Corbett, to take an 8-6 lead with 3:50 to play. It was the largest lead of the day by either team at that point.

Valdes then took over in the final three minutes. She scored with 2:23 to play  to make it 8-7 and then tied the game at eight with 1:20 to play. Neither team would score in the final minute and the game would go to overtime.

Rose Kanemy gave SDSU their first lead since 1-0 when she scored on the first possession of the first overtime, making it 9-8. Valdes then scored a minute later to make it 10-9.

Ravelo answered to start the second overtime to cut the lead to 10-9. Valdes answered again on the next possession for a key two-goal lead, 11-9. Ravelo would add one more with :35 left to make it 11-10. They would not get another chance.
