IRVINE, Calif. -- Back-to-back goals with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter broke a 7-7 tie that helped lift Concordia to 11-8 win over Santa Clara in the Golden Coast Conference opener on Thursday.
Concordia (6-7, 1-0) had four players score a pair of goals, including Madison Ravelo had with a four-point day (two goals and two assists). Kim Reidel, Andie Perreira and Emily Tucker also scored a two goals each. Elle Fredrickson led Santa Clara (5-7, 0-1) with three goals.
After trading goals, the game was tied at 2-2 after the first quarter. Concordia then scored three straight to take a 5-2 lead on Reidelk's goal with 3:10 to play in the first half. After the teams traded goals, Santa Clara's Harper Daniels scored to make 6-4 in the closing minute of the half.
Santa Clara then opened the second half with back-to-back goals by Kate Rodman to tie the game at 6-6. The teams traded goals, including Fredrickson to make it 7-7 with 1:48 to play.
After Ravelo gave the Golden Eagles the lead, Tucker added another to make it 9-7 with just :01 second left. The teams would trade goals and Ravelo would add one more in the final minute for the final margin.
