The Aztecs (13-15) trailed 7-5 with 1:05 to play in the third quarter. They then shutout the Cougars (8-16) the rest of the game and scored the game's final three goals to advance to Saturday's semifinals against the winner of Fresno State and California Baptist in the second semi at 4 pm.

Karli Canale led the Aztecs comeback, leading the team with four goals, including both goals in the fourth quarter. Her goal with 6:48 to play in regulation tied it at 7-7. The teams went the rest of the way without a goal. SDSU goalie Raquel de Pinho had 15 saves while her counterpart, Late Green-Jones, had 14 for APU.

APU's Shyanne Rainey scored with 1:05 to play in the third for that 7-5 lead. She had two goals, as did Gabrielle Martinez, to lead APU. Canale then scored on back-to-back possessions to start the fourth quarter to setup the finish.

It is the first overtime game in the GCC Women's Championships April 29, 2017 when Fresno Pacific defeated California Baptist, 8-7, in a consolation game. The last overtime game in the winner's bracket was the 2016 title game that saw San Diego State defeate Pacific, 10-9, in sudden death overtime on May 1, 2016.
