Lions Dominate Middle Quarters to Advance

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The No. 3 seeded LMU Lions posted shutouts in the second and third quarters and used a five-goal run to push themselves to the Golden Coast Conference Women's Championship Semifinals with a 9-4 win over Santa Clara in game one of the 2022 GCC tournament on Friday morning.

Eight different players scored for the Lions (15-11), including a pair from Marialena Seletopoulou. She added three steals as the Lions allowed just four goals to advance. Goalie Madison Davis had six saves. Santa Clara's Grace Kavanagh made eight saves and kept the game close as the Lions outshot the Broncos (7-20) 30-20. Four different players scored for Santa Clara.

Kate Rodman scored with 1:49 to play in the first quarter on a 6-on-5 attack, cutting LMU's lead to 3-2 early. The Lions then scored five straight and posted a pair of shutouts in the middle two quarters to earn the win.

LMU will play in the first semifinal at 2 pm Saturday against the winner of Pacific and Concordia. Santa Clara will play in either the fifth or seventh place game on Saturday.
