Pacific Returns to Fourth Straight Title Game

FRESNO, Calif. -- The eighth-ranked Pacific Tigers return to title game of the Golden Coast Conference Women's Championships for the fourth consecutive year thanks to an 11-7 win over No. 18 Fresno State in the second semifinal for the 2019 tournament Saturday afternoon.

GCC Player of the Year Kyra Christmas led all scorers with five goals and Clara Vulpisi had nine saves as the Tigers (16-8) held off the fourth-seed Bulldogs (13-15). The top-seed Tigers have won the last two tournament titles and will look for a third against third-seeded and 12th ranked LMU, a 10-5 winner in the first semifinal against San DIego State. The title game will be held at 2:30 pm.

Fresno State's Emily Diacono scored with 6:42 to play in the first half to tie the game at 3-3. The Tigers then responded with three straight goals to take a 6-3 lead on Truly Dorland's goal with 4:52 in the half. Trystyn Vuori would score on a five-meter penalty shot to cut the lead to 6-4 going into halftime.

The Tigers had another three-goal run in them including a pair from Christmas to take control, 9-4. The Bulldogs would make it interesting with a goal in the final second of the third quarter and then the first goal of the fourth to mke it 9-6. That would be as close as they would get the rest of the way.
