Defense, Ramirez Paces Lancers Win

FRESNO, Calif. -- California Baptist goalie Grace Ramirez allowed just two goals in the first three quarters and that allowed the sixth-seed Lancers to find their offense on way to an 8-5 win over seventh-seed Santa Clara in game five of the 2019 Golden Coast Conference Women's Championships at Fresno State Saturday.

Ramirez made 11 saves for the game, including a shutout in the third quarter. Katie Fugit had three goals for the Lancers who advance to Sunday's fifth-place game. Annie Eldredge led Santa Clara with a pair of goals.

The Broncos took a 2-1 lead on goals from Kelly Frumkin and Emma Allegrucci with 5:23 to play in the second quarter. From there, Ramirez and the Lancer defense didn't allow a goal for the next 14 minutes and didn't allow an even strength goal until 2:45 left in the game.

Trailing 2-1, CBU scored the next four goals to take a 5-2 lead into the lockerroom. After a scoreless third quarter, the teams would trade off a trio of goals for the final margin.
