Pair of Late Goal Earns Bulldogs Win

FRESNO, Calif. -- With the game tied at 6-6 heading into the final quarter, fourth-seed and host Fresno State pictched a shutout on defense and got a pair goals for Sienna Jagielski to earn an 8-6 win over fifth-seed Azusa Pacific in game three of the 2019 Golden Coast Conference Women's Championships Friday afternoon.

It was a classic four-five quarterfinal match-up that came down to the end. Callie Woodruff led the Bulldogs (13-14) with three goals. Daphne Guevremont joined Jagielski with a pair of goals. Mar Pastor Alvarez led the Cougars with four goals and Sarah Adams added a pair for the Cougars (17-14)

Guevremont gave Fresno State a 5-3 lead with 42 seconds left in the second half. The score would stay that way into the third before the Cougars scored three straight goals, including a pair of Alvarez to take a 6-5 lead with 3:55 to play in the third.

The Bulldogs would score the final three goals of rthe game, including an Isabella Magno goal to tie the game at 6-6 right after the Cougars took the lead. It would stay tied until Jagielski gave the Bulldogs the lead for good just 40 seconds into the fourth quarter. She would add one more goal with 4:17 to play.

Fresno State advances to the semifinals on Saturday and will take on top-seed Pacific in the second semifinal at 4:15 PM.
