LOS ANGELES -- Playing in their first Golden Coast Conference Women's Water Polo Championships, Concordia University Irvine ended it on a high note, claiming 8-5 win over Santa Clara in the seventh place game on Sunday morning at the Burns Aquatics Center.

The Eagles (6-18), who served a waiting period as they transitioned to NCAA status the last two years, were eligible for this year's tournament. All-GCC selection Dailynn Santoro led seven Eagles in goals with two as they snap a 15-game skid dating back to Mar. 3.

With the game tied at 1-1, Santoro scored both her goal on back-to-back attacks to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead, one they would not let go of. The Eagles are the first lower seed to win at the 2018 Championships, which had gone according to seed through Saturday.

The Broncos (12-19) cut the lead down to one three times only to have CUI answer. Annie Eldredge led the Broncos with three goals, an assist and a steal.
