LOS ANGELES -- After combining to score eight goals in the first three quarter, fourth-seed Azusa Pacific and fifth-seed Fresno State exploded to match that in the fourth quarter of game three of the 2018 Golden Coast Conference Women's Water Polo Championships at the Burns Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon.
Five of those goals belonged to the Cougars (16-14) who claimed a 9-7 win to advance to the second semifinal on Saturday. Trailing 6-5 with 3:11 remaining, the APU scored four of the last five goals of the game to advance.
Fresno State's Isabella Magno gave the Bulldogs the 6-5 lead with an even-strength goal with 3:11 to play.
The Cougars then scored three straight to take the lead for good. Britt Harris would tie the game on a 6-on-5 goal with 2:53 to play. A minute later, Hannah Bradley scored her third of the game for a 7-6 lead. Sarah Adams made it a two-goal lead, 8-6, with 1:16 to play.
The teams would trade goals for the final score.
Bradley led all scorers with three goals. Adams added a pair while goalie Erica Marquez had 10 saves and three steals. Fresno State had two goals from Callie Woodruff and Isabella Mango.
Azusa Pacific advances to the second semifinal against the winner of Pacific/Concordia at 2:30 pm.
