SAN DIEGO - Santa Clara senior Elizabeth Anderson (SR/Palo Alto, CA) equalled a Golden Coast Conference Tournament record with six goals, leading the Broncos to a 13-9 win over Azusa Pacific in the fifth place game on Sunday afternoon at the Aztec Aqualplex.

Anderson equalled LMU's Alexandra Honny (4/24/14) for the most goals scored in a GCC Tournament game with the six, lifting the Broncos (11-15) to a fifth place finish at the 2016 GCC Women's Championships. Fellow senior Elle Surber (SR/Pleasanton, CA) added three goals and goalie Francesca Puccinelli (JR/San Francisco, CA) had 14 saves for the Broncos.
Azusa Pacific (11-22) finishes in sixth place and was led by Katie Margot (SR/San Marcos, CA) with 14 saves. Alba Espinar (SR/Barcelona, Spain) and Megan Myers (JR/Temecula, CA) had three goals each.
It was a tight first quarter as the Cougars tied the game at 3-3 thanks to Alex Paxton (JR/Fullerton, CA), who scored to start the second quarter.
However, Anderson would score back-to-back goals to make 5-3 Santa Clara. After Maryann Slama (SR/Burnaby, B.C., Canada) answered to make it 5-4, the Broncos gained separation with three straight goals, two by Anderson. She had four at the half as they led 8-5 at the break.
After they teams traded goals to start the second half, Anderson would help the Broncos gain their largest lead at 11-6 with 2:40 to play in the third quarter.
The teams would trade goals the rest of the way with Myers scoring with eight seconds left for the final margin.
