STOCKTON, Calif. - No. 6 seed Santa Clara used a key three-goal run to bridge halves to earn an 11-8 win over No. 4 seed Azusa Pacific in the fifth place game of the 2015 Golden Coast Conference Championships at Chris Kjeldsen Pool in Stockton, Calif.
Santa Clara finishes the season at 16-14 overall as Sydni Estrella (JR/Huntington Beach, CA) led the Broncos in goal with 10 saves. Azusa Pacific wraps up the season at 10-17. GCC Newcomer of the Year Alba Espinar (JR/Barcelona, Spain) had three goals for the Cougars.
Julia Peters (JR/San Jose, CA), Elizabeth Anderson (JR/Palo Alto, CA) and Elle Surber (JR/Pleasanton, CA) all had three goals for the Broncos.
With game tied at 3-3, Lauren Radich (SR/Danville, CA) scored with 51 seconds left in the first half to break the tie. It would kick-start the Broncos on a three-goal run. Anderson scored 28 seconds into the second half and Surber scored just over a minute later for a 6-3 lead.
Santa Clara kept the three goal lead until the Cougars scored back-to-back goals by Britt Harris (FR/Upland, CA) and Ashley Taylor (FR/La Crescenta, CA) to cut the lead to 9-8 with 3:51 remaining in the game. Peters and Anderson would score for the final cushion.
