Lancers Defeat CUI in Another Good One

Emaly Hutton leads Lancers with six points as they hold on down the stretch in a game that features six ties.

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - In a game featuring six ties, California Baptist fought off a fierce Concordia rally to earn a 12-11 win in Golden Coast Conference action on Friday night.

Emaly Hutton scored five goals with an assist for a six-point day, while adding three steals on defense to lift the Lancers (9-13, 2-1). Grace Bergquist had a three-point day with two assists and a goal, while goalie Tyanna Schneider had 11 saves.

Melinna Galbraith had three points with a goal and two assists for Concordia (10-14, 0-1). Tessa Tavaglione had three goals in the setback.

The first 13 minutes of the game featured five ties as Concordia tied the game at 5-5 when Lily Ensley scored with 3:34 to play in the first half.

California Baptist looked to take control as they scored the next four goals, including Aubrey Newton's with 6:57 to play in the third quarter to take a 9-5 lead. 

But then Concordia matched that. They scored four unanswered of their own, tying the game at 9-9 when Andie Perreira scored with 4:14 to play in the third.

Celeste Almendairz scored a six-on-five goal with 2:01 to play to take a 10-9 lead. The Lancers open the fourth quarter with a goal, taking an 11-9 tally from Hutton. Tavaglione answered three minutes later to make it 11-10.

Bergquist would score the eventual game winner with 2:25 to play to make it 12-10. Tavaglione scorfed with 21 seconds left to make it 12-11 but Concordia would not get another shot.
