SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The third-seeded LMU Lions scored four unanswered goals to start the game and then five unanswered coming out of the lockerroom at halftime to earn a 12-2 win over sixth-seeded California Baptist in the first game of the 2017 Golden Coast Conference Women's Championships.
Sophomore first-team All-GCC selection Hana Vilanova and junior Sage Pfeiffer led the Lions with four goals. Senior second-team All-GCC selection Caitlin Schafer had four points, scoring two goals with two assists.
The Lions scored the first five goals of the game and the first six goals of the second half to jump out to a 12-1 lead. Sophomore honorable mention All-GCC goalie Sky Flores had 11 saves and a steal on the defensive side for the Lions.
LMU advances to the first semifinal on Saturday, April 29 at 12 noon. They will play the winner of Pacific and Fresno Pacific.
